Mozilla Firefox 118 is now available to all users on the release channel. The latest feature update introduces several important changes, such as automatic translation of web content through local processing, font improvements, video effects support in Google Meet, and add-on suggestions for US FirefoxSuggest users. Additionally, there are traditional security fixes to make your browsing experience safer.

It is worth noting that the release of Firefox 118.0 marks the end of support for the Firefox 102 extended support version. From now on, version 115 is the only supported ESR version.

What are the new features of Firefox 118.0?

new features

Firefox users can now automatically translate web content. Unlike cloud-based alternatives, translation is done natively in Firefox, so the translated text never leaves your machine.

Web audio in Firefox now works on all systems using the FDLIBM math library, improving anonymity with fingerprint protection.

The visibility of website fonts has been limited to system fonts and language pack fonts to reduce font fingerprinting in private browsing windows.

Firefox users can now use video effects and background blur on Google Meet! (Note: These effects have also been released retroactively to support versions prior to Firefox 115).

FirefoxSuggest users (currently US only) can now see keyword-based browser add-on suggestions in the address bar.
