The latest survey of U.S. teenagers by investment bank Piper Sandler shows that the popularity of Apple's iPhone has not been affected by the economic recession. PiperSandler's latest report surveyed 9,193 15.7-year-old teenagers across the United States.

In the last survey in April 2023, 87% of teenagers owned an iPhone, and 88% said they planned to buy another one. And in the new report for October 2023, these numbers are exactly the same.
However, smartwatch ownership rates vary. In April this year, 35% of respondents owned an Apple Watch, up from 31% in October last year. In October 2023, the proportion of American teenagers who own an Apple Watch dropped to 34%. If the survey's respondents are an accurate representation of the United States, an ownership rate of 34% would mean that approximately 14 million teenagers across the United States are using an Apple Watch.
Apple was also pleased with the payment app findings. In the new report, Apple Pay ranked first, with 42% of respondents having used Apple Pay in the month before being asked.
31% of teenagers now own a VR device, up from 29% in April 2023. However, the actual usage rate of VR equipment has dropped from about 14% to about 10%.
To write this report, Piper Sandler conducted the survey between September 4 and September 27, 2023, so mainly before the iPhone 15 series was launched. The 9,192 teenagers surveyed lived in 49 states in the United States.
