Recently, the 2023 Chengdu World Science Fiction Conference was held. This is the first time that the World Science Fiction Conference has been held in China since its establishment in 1939. Many industry guests discussed how to draw inspiration from cutting-edge technologies and how to continue to rejuvenate Chinese science fiction in more than 200 themed salon forums. Many film and television projects have been unveiled during the conference. At one of the salons with the theme of "The Three-Body Problem Illuminating Reality and the Future," Liu Cixin's two novels "The Three-Body Problem" and "The Supernova Era" were officially announced to be adapted into movies.
At the event, "Three-Body Universe" CEO Zhao Jilong revealed: "In fact, we have been developing the "Three-Body" movie for quite some time. We are doing a lot of development and polishing work on the story direction of the "Three-Body" movie, including the final script. I think the next step should be a stage of accelerated production of the "Three-Body" movie. In terms of content, we must be planning for multiple movies, I think it may be about five."
In addition, the film production of Liu Cixin's another science fiction novel "Supernova Era" has also started. Film producer Xu Zhihao said: "'Supernova Era' is Liu Cixin's first novel, so the world view and content in it are very rich and huge. (In the adaptation), the original work actually accounts for a large proportion, and the script is really the top priority."
In addition to long-term planning of film and television works, "Three-Body Universe" also actively explores the long-chain value of Trisolaris IP operations, develops pan-cultural interactive entertainment and live-action entertainment and other fields, hoping to create a new business model. Zhao Jilong said: "Through the product co-branding, market co-branding and other activities of "Three-Body", the final market value and product sales have exceeded 2 billion today. The ability to open up links like "Three-Body" or other popular science fiction IPs. Only when the value of our market is high enough and our entire industry chain is gradually improved and implemented, can we really see the rise of science fiction as an industry in China."
