According to reports, BYD recently announced the elimination of 12V lead-acid batteries, and all its models will use lithium iron phosphate starting batteries, officially entering the lead-free era of all vehicles. According to reports, lead-acid batteries are currently widely used as starting batteries for fuel vehicles because of their mature technology and low prices. However, with the emergence of new technologies, the disadvantages of traditional lead-acid batteries have become increasingly obvious.
Lead-acid batteries have a relatively short service life and will be scrapped after an average of 350 complete charges and discharges.According to the frequency of use, the life of a lead-acid battery is generally 2-3 years.
The replacement cost of a lead-acid battery is about 400-600 yuan, which also increases the full cycle cost of the vehicle.
Secondly, when lead-acid batteries are not used for a long time, they are prone to power loss and may even require power rescue. Lead-acid batteries have low energy density, are large in size, and are heavy in weight, which is not conducive to lightweighting the car.
In contrast, the 12V lithium iron phosphate battery system developed by BYD has a longer life and can reach more than 3,000 cycles, which is equivalent to the same life as the entire vehicle and does not need to be replaced almost throughout its life.
If a car is used for 10 years,The service life alone can help car owners save 2,000-3,000 yuan in car maintenance costs.
BYD has also equipped the lithium iron phosphate starting battery with a BMS battery management system. When the starting battery is low, the power battery can intelligently charge it. Therefore, even if the vehicle is not driven for a year, it will not be unable to start.
In addition, the minimum weight of a 12V lithium iron phosphate battery is only 2 kilograms. Compared with the weight of lead-acid batteries, which can easily reach 10 kilograms, it is more conducive to vehicle driving economy and lightweight.
However, the production cost of lithium iron phosphate starting batteries is higher than that of lead-acid batteries, but BYD has achieved a significant cost reduction of the system through its industrialization advantages and has completed the installation on all DM series models.
