The commercial launch of the Tesla Cybertruck could begin anytime in the near future, and the frenzy surrounding the electric pickup truck continues to grow. The latest crowdsourced online booking tracking data shows that Cybertruck net bookings have now surpassed the 2 million mark. Since Tesla requires users to pay a $100 (fully refundable) deposit when accepting pre-orders, if this number is accurate, Cybertruck’s pre-order revenue alone exceeds $200 million.
However, this is not representative of final order numbers as some people will cancel their reservations.
Tesla CEO Musk first announced the launch of Cybertruck at the end of 2019. But the company missed its originally announced release date due to the coronavirus pandemic and other geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.
Cybertruck bookings reached the 1 million mark in May 2021, and in late July this year, it was reported that its bookings exceeded 1.94 million units.
Tesla fans and Musk himself have high hopes for the Cybertruck. Gary Black of FutureFund predicts that the launch of the Cybertruck will have a halo effect on sales of Tesla's other models and significantly boost sales.
