"That's weird, man," he said. "They got all the very specific details of what I was wearing right, but the whole narrative arc around my motivations and all that stuff was completely wrong."
The 15-year-old movie became a topic of conversation because Zuckerberg wore one of Jesse Eisenberg's T-shirts when he played the young founder on screen - which Zuckerberg later bought at an auction. While Zuckerberg has been known to wear plain gray T-shirts in the past, he has since become more focused on his style, so his T-shirt choice is likely no accident.
Zuckerberg said he knew employees would be curious anyway, so he arranged for company employees to come along to see it.
"The whole storyline was like, I wanted to have a girlfriend on some level, but I was dating Priscilla before I even started using Facebook."
Perhaps this description of Zuckerberg stems from another site he created as a student that made him famous: Facemash, an app where students could vote for who was the hottest classmate. While the service was popular with some students, it also angered many who felt it violated their privacy because he created the site by scraping classmates' student ID photos from a non-public server.
"That's one of the unfortunate things about the internet," Zuckerberg said, "is that people have made up a lot of the founding myths the way they want to."
He denied that Facemash was a predecessor to Facebook and claimed that more than two decades later, people still associate Facemash with Facebook because of the "social network."
"I was just a kid," Zuckerberg said.
