Memory chip maker Micron Technology has announced a plan to invest $200 billion in the United States to strengthen its chip manufacturing business. The investment focuses on Idaho, New York and Virginia as production and R&D hubs. according toStatement from Micron, the company’s new investment plan in the United States includes US$150 billion for domestic memory manufacturing and US$50 billion for R&D operations, which will ultimately create approximately 90,000 direct and indirect jobs for Americans.

"These investments are designed to position Micron to meet anticipated market demand, maintain share and support Micron's goal of producing 40% of DRAM in the United States," Micron said.

In addition to previous investments, Micron said it plans to spend $30 billion to build a second cutting-edge memory factory in Boise, Idaho, and modernize its existing manufacturing plant in Manassas, Virginia. The memory chip maker is also currently planning to build a massive factory in New York.

Micron’s investment brings advanced packaging capabilities to the U.S., fueling long-term growth in high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a key component in artificial intelligence data centers.

"This approximately $200 billion investment will strengthen U.S. technology leadership, create tens of thousands of U.S. jobs across the semiconductor ecosystem and ensure domestic semiconductor supply - critical to the economy and national security," said Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra.

The timetable for Micron's investment in the United States has not yet been determined. However, the investment is expected to be completed within the next four years as the company credits the Trump administration for facilitating the investment.

Meanwhile, Micron is not the only chipmaker to announce plans to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the United States during the Trump administration. In April this year, Nvidia also announced an investment of US$500 billion in the United States to produce artificial intelligence servers and other related equipment. Other tech giants such as TSMC, Apple, OpenAI and SoftBank have also announced large-scale investment plans during the Trump administration.
