South Korea's SK Hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip maker, said on Thursday it would set up a new unit called AIInfra to be responsible for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor-related businesses, as part of the company's strategy to focus more on high-demand high-end chips. SK Hynix said the new unit, recently established in the company's annual top-level reshuffle, will consolidate high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capabilities and functions dispersed within the company.

This department will also lead the development of artificial intelligence technologies such as new generation HBM chips and find and develop new markets.

SK hynix said that Kim Juseon, the current head of global sales and marketing department, will lead this new department.

SK Hynix also said that in order to strengthen its NAND flash memory and solution business, it will establish a new strategic department, the N-S Committee. The organization will serve as the control tower for the NAND and solutions businesses, responsible for driving product and related project profitability and optimizing resource utilization efficiency.

In addition, SK Hynix President Kwak Noh-jung will serve as the company's sole CEO. Current co-CEO and vice chairman Park Jung-ho resigned in yesterday's personnel adjustment.
