SSD main control chip manufacturer Phison announced its November results, which once again confirmed the fact that the storage industry has also seen a significant price increase. Phison released its performance report for November 2023, with consolidated revenue of NT$5.407 billion, a monthly increase of nearly 5%, the second highest in the same period in history.According to Phison, the total shipments of SSD control chips continued to recover in November. Among them, the total shipments of PCIe SSD control chips increased by nearly 40% year-on-year, setting a new record for the same period in history. Its performance also confirms the fact that the entire storage industry has experienced large price increases and continues to increase prices.

Prior to this, Western Digital, the world's fourth largest NAND Flash supplier, issued a price increase notice to customers.

In the letter, Western Digital stated that the company will review the pricing of hard drive products on a weekly basis and expects prices to rise in the first half of next year. For NAND chips, the company expects prices to rise cyclically in the next few quarters. Based on the current quotation, the cumulative increase may reach 55%.

Since the second half of last year, NAND flash chip quotations have plummeted. Later, as major manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix successively reduced production significantly, coupled with the recovery of application terminals such as mobile phones and the restart of the supply wave, NAND chips began to bottom out and rebound.

It is worth noting that at this stage, the industry is optimistic that NAND chip quotations will stop falling and rebound. However, currently most suppliers are notifying customers individually to adjust their quotations. However, Western Digital directly sent a price increase letter to customers this time, and the increase is expected to be astonishing. It can be called the first shot of a comprehensive price increase in the industry.
