Sahasra Electronic Solutions, headquartered in Noida, India, is a subsidiary of the Sahasra Group and plans to launch the first "Made in India" PC computer motherboard in November this year. Amrit Manwani, chairman and managing director of Sahasra Group, said they are the first Indian company to design motherboards in India, adding that its products are expected to be priced between 6,000-7,000 Indian rupees ($72-84), which is 10-15% cheaper than products produced by Chinese brands and imported into India.
Sahasra's motherboard products are currently undergoing testing and will be built based on Intel's 13th generation chips.
In addition to PC motherboards, Sahasra's LED driver chips are also in the trial production stage and are expected to be available in the next few months. Sahasra Electronics, the EMS and PCB manufacturing arm of the Sahasra Group, has invested Rs 750 crore to set up an ATMP plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.
Once Sahasra starts shipping its PC motherboards, it will benefit the Indian IT hardware supply chain's localization strategy. The Indian government announced in August this year that starting from November, imports of tablets, laptops, all-in-one computers and ultra-thin computers will require an import license.
However, it remains to be seen whether Sahasra will start mass-producing electronic products, including LED drivers, hard drives and motherboards, which it has announced its involvement in. Sahasra Semiconductor previously planned to mass-produce memory modules by the end of 2022, but the plan did not materialize.
