In 2007, the Dalian EA888 base was officially put into production. In June 2023, the 8 millionth EA888 engine rolled off the production line. In September 2024, the 9 millionth engine rolled off the production line. On January 20, 2026, the 10 millionth EA888 engine rolled off the production line.

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of FAW-Volkswagen, Volkswagen FAW Engine has become the company that produces the largest number of EA888 engines in the world.

The EA888 series engine made its global debut in 2006. After five generations of iterations, it has become one of the most successful engine series of the Volkswagen Group, with a cumulative installed capacity of more than 20 million units worldwide.

The 10 millionth EA888 series fifth-generation EA888 2.0T model rolled off the production line this time.Equipped with three cutting-edge core technologies: Porsche's homologous VTG variable area turbocharging technology, 500bar ultra-high-pressure fuel direct injection system and full-condition Miller cycle, achieving dual breakthroughs in thermal efficiency and power performance.

The EA888 produced by Volkswagen FAW Engine is mainly suitable for the main models of FAW-Volkswagen's Volkswagen and Audi brands, including Magotan, Passat, Tanyue, Tiguan L, A4L, A6L, Q5L, Q3, etc. It is the core power source of German mid-size cars and SUVs in the Chinese market.
