Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates today praised the "revolutionary" properties of artificial intelligence (AI) and predicted its potential impact on the world. Gates said: "Innovation is the reason why our lives have greatly improved over the past century. From electricity and cars to medicine and airplanes, innovation has made the world a better place."
AI’s impact on work
Gates said that compared with previous years, there is a clearer awareness of what tasks AI will be able to do on its own and what tasks it will serve as an assistant.
This year, a lot of research has been done trying to figure out which skills and industries will be most impacted by AI. There is already evidence thatUsing AI as an assistant at work can help employees succeed. Moreover, some companies have developed in-house AI tools.
Gates also admitted that he hasn't fully figured out how to make AI fully effective in his work. “If you haven’t figured out how to get the most out of AI, you’re not alone,” he said.
AI's impact on education
Gates has previously predicted that in the next 5 to 10 years, AI may change education by providing content suitable for students' learning styles.
Gates believes that AI can improve student motivation by letting them know what content motivates them and what content makes them lose interest in the subject. certainly,Teachers will not become redundant, but they may need to adapt to this new technology.
Gates said it's "exciting" about the AI education tools currently being trialled. Tools like Khanmigo and MATHia are amazing, he said. Moreover, further improvements will be made in the coming years.
Gates also said that these AI teaching tools are designed with specific cultural backgrounds in mind. After localization work, these tools may also be promoted to student groups around the world in the future, which is exciting.
