Microsoft seems to be deprecating a lot of old features recently. In addition to some features in Windows being deprecated, Microsoft is also gradually deprecating various protection functions based on Microsoft Defender in the past two years. For example, Microsoft announced that it has deprecated Microsoft Defender Application Guard for Office.

Today Microsoft announced the deprecation of Microsoft Defender Application Guard for Edge, a hardware virtualization-based security feature developed by Microsoft for the Edge browser.

When MDAG for Edge is deprecated and an untrusted website is opened, Edge will create a virtualized isolation environment to run, so that even if the website has malicious purposes, it cannot penetrate the virtualized environment and affect the host.

Microsoft did not disclose why this feature was deprecated. Microsoft stated in a support document:

Microsoft Defender Application Guard, including the Windows Independent Application Launcher API, will be deprecated in Microsoft Edge for Business and will no longer be updated.

At the same time, Microsoft also provides IT administrators with a Microsoft Edge for Business security white paper, in which Microsoft provides some other security recommendations.
