The BBC reported recently that Arion Kurtaj, a major member of the international hacker group Lapsus$, was sentenced to life imprisonment for his alleged involvement in the "GTA6" leak incident and his "intention to return to cybercrime" without any remorse. He will serve his life sentence in a hospital prison.
During the lawsuit, Rockstar told the court that the hack cost the company $5 million in addition to "thousands of hours of employee time." This leak occurred in September 2022 and included more than 90 screenshots and videos of early versions of the game, which had not yet been announced to be in development.
In July 2023, months after Arion Kurtaj was first arrested, he was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. But just a month later, Kurtaj was arrested again when he was found hacking Rockstar in a hotel room using only an Amazon Firestick, a TV and a mobile phone.
Although Rockstar said it was "extremely disappointed" by the leak, the developer appeared to recoup some of its losses when it released the official trailer for GTA 6 earlier this month. Of course, the trailer did not escape the fate of being leaked a day in advance.
