On Friday, OpenAI launched a preview version of a new set of personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States, allowing users to connect their accounts and consult on various issues ranging from consumption analysis to future financial planning.

OpenAI has partnered with financial connection service provider Plaid to manage account connection matters. Users can connect to more than 12,000 financial institutions, including Charles Schwab, Fidelity Investments, JPMorgan Chase, Robinhood, American Express and Capital One, among others. Once users connect their accounts, they will see a dashboard showing their portfolio performance, spending, subscription services, and upcoming payments due.

The launch of this new product comes just a month after OpenAI acquired the team of personal finance startup Hiro in April this year. The company has received support from investors such as Ribbit, General Catalyst and Restive. OpenAI said that the Hiro team’s expertise in finance was helpful in launching the product, but it did not specify whether the entire feature was developed by them.

Users can access the tool by selecting "Get started" in the "Finances" option in the sidebar, or by typing "@Finances, connect my accounts" in the ChatGPT conversation. Once the user performs this action, the chatbot will guide them through Plaid to link their account. The company said it plans to support Intuit soon, which will enable analysis such as the tax impact of a stock sale or the probability of credit card approval.

According to OpenAI, more than 200 million users currently consult ChatGPT every month on financial-related issues. The company also noted that the newly launched GPT-5.5 model is more powerful at reasoning in context, which is critical for answering finance-related questions. The company said it worked with financial experts to create a benchmark to improve the model's performance on personal finance issues.

With new financial tool integrations, users can get detailed answers to questions like "I feel like I'm spending more money lately, has anything changed?" or "Help me create a plan to be ready to buy a home in my area in the next 5 years."

Users can remove the connection to a specific account by going to "Settings > Apps > Finances". Once a service is disconnected, the synchronized data will be deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days. Additionally, users can view and delete financial memories from the Finances page.

Universal chatbots are designed to answer any question, leading to people asking questions about data-sensitive topics like health, finance, and personal lives. AI companies realize this and are making specialized products for these areas. OpenAI and Anthropic have both launched health-related tools. Earlier this month, Perplexity launched its own financial research product based on its Computer agent.

OpenAI said its personal finance tools will be available to Pro users on the web and iOS versions of ChatGPT. The company notes that based on these user feedback, they want to improve the product before opening it up to Plus users.
