Years after removing USB ports, Apple is letting users restore a malfunctioning Apple TV using an iPhone running iOS 17. On Monday, Apple launched iOS 17, and with it came a raft of changes. One of the changes is to restore your AppleTV by simply bringing your iPhone close to your AppleTV and following the steps provided.

Apple Online Store (China)
Previously, Apple TV could be restored by the user through the USB port. Recently, if your AppleTV has system issues, you either need to go to an Apple Store retail store or send it in for repair.
One thing to note is that it must be an AppleTVHD already running tvOS17. Additionally, your iPhone needs to be running iOS17 or higher.
If the TV can be restored, an image of the iPhone close to the AppleTV will appear on the TV screen. Users then simply hold their iPhone close to the Apple TV and the repair function will be triggered.
Apple notes that after following these steps, users can use their iPhone as normal, but will need to connect their Apple TV to a power source while the recovery is complete.
