Industry sources revealed on Sunday that Samsung Electronics plans to advance the start-up of its first wafer factory in the Yongin Chip Industrial Park to 2029, one to two years earlier than originally planned. The production schedule is advanced, thanks to the Korean government's accelerated construction of the Yongin National Industrial Park. The park is a national strategic project and will become Samsung's core base for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.

According to sources, this industrial park is located in southern Seoul and plans to build six semiconductor factories. The first factory is scheduled to be put into operation in 2029.

An industry source said: "The first factory will be put into production ahead of schedule, which will help Samsung respond more quickly to the skyrocketing market demand for global artificial intelligence chips."

According to news released by the chip manufacturer last month, according to its ultra-large-scale investment plan, Samsung will invest 2030 trillion won (equivalent to US$1.35 trillion) in the two major semiconductor industry clusters of Pyeongtaek and Yongin; it will also invest 400 trillion won to build two new chip factories in Gwangju City, 270 kilometers south of Seoul.
