Just yesterday, the official Xbox indie game account ID@Xbox posted a tweet asking players which indie game they liked the most this year. The content of the tweet is just a common social media post from the company's official account to interact with fans, but its accompanying picture has become the focus of "controversy."

Apparently, this picture was generated using AI. If you don’t look too carefully, you’ll notice that there are many traces and errors that are obviously generated by AI in the picture. AI-generated image technology has always been controversial, especially among artists and designers in the industry. On the one hand, there are many obvious fallacies in generating images, and the key point is that many AIs use unauthorized artist works to generate images. There have been large-scale protests against AI on the art website ArtStation before.

The use of AI-generated images to promote indie games has naturally sparked criticism from many artists. The ID@Xbox account quickly deleted the tweet.

However, people other than artists don’t seem to particularly care about these things. The news was reported by the media and spread to other social platforms. On the Reddit forum, some players said they didn't think there was anything wrong with what Xbox was doing, and others pointed out that Microsoft was using technology developed by itself - Microsoft has been working with OpenAI, the largest generative AI development company. Some people also said that they often use image generation tools at work.
