The world's first functional semiconductor made of graphene was released, and the relevant paper was published in the authoritative journal Nature. It is understood that the paper is called "Ultra-high mobility semiconductor epitaxial graphene on silicon carbide", and the leading research team is the Tianjin University research team. Semiconductors refer to materials whose electrical conductivity at room temperature is between conductors and insulators. Graphite and graphene-related materials are widely used in battery electrode materials, semiconductor devices, transistors, etc.

Graphene can be used to make transistors. Due to the high stability of the graphene structure, such transistors can still work stably at a scale close to that of a single atom. In contrast, transistors made of silicon become less stable below 10 nanometers.

Marley's research team used a special furnace to produce large-area single-crystal graphene-like materials while growing graphene on silicon carbide wafers covered with organic films, according to the paper's abstract.

This is a substance grown on the crystal surface of silicon carbide. The structure of epitaxial graphene is almost the same but it does not have better electrical conductivity.

Measurements show thatThis semiconductor graphene has a mobility more than 10 times that of silicon at room temperature.

The research team stated that this research is of great significance to the practical application of graphene electronics in the future. However, it is estimated that it will take 10 to 15 years before graphene semiconductors are fully implemented.
