[The U.S. State Department approves the sale of 48 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia] September 18th: The U.S. State Department issued a statement on the 17th saying that it has approved a possible foreign military sale of 48 F-35 fighter jets and related equipment to Saudi Arabia, with an estimated total amount of up to US$24.3 billion. According to the statement, the arms sales include 48 F-35 fighter jets and 49 supporting engines, as well as communications equipment, spare parts, training and other support equipment. According to US media reports, this arms sale still needs approval from the US Congress. Even if approved, it will take several years for the first batch of fighter jets to be delivered to Saudi Arabia.
