[Germany reaches agreement on 2.5 billion euro fuel relief package and price cap plan] On September 19, the German federal government and state governments have agreed on a 2.5 billion euro ($2.9 billion) relief package, which includes a three-month fuel tax reduction starting in October and a temporary refueling price cap plan to ease the pressure on motorists and businesses. Energy taxes on gasoline and diesel will be reduced by 14 euro cents per liter, and with the VAT component included, the total tax reduction is approximately 17 euro cents. The Finance Ministry will use unused budget funds this year and make up the remainder through "mixed financing measures", with half of the 2.5 billion euro cost borne by the German states.
