[SoftBank plans to issue more than $11 billion in high-yield bonds to raise funds for its bet on OpenAI] On September 21, people familiar with the matter revealed that SoftBank Group is planning to raise more than $11 billion and plans to launch one of the largest high-yield debt (junk bond) issuance transactions in history. Son’s conglomerate is increasing its investment in ChatGPT developer OpenAI. According to people familiar with the matter, the company plans to issue US$10 billion in US dollar-denominated bonds with three maturities; it will also issue 1 billion euros in Euro bonds, divided into two batches. People familiar with the matter requested anonymity because the relevant negotiations are non-public information. They added that part of the proceeds will be used for additional investment in OpenAI, which is expected to be completed next month. The bond deal could price as soon as Thursday.
