[Bank of Korea officials said they will decide whether to raise interest rates further while monitoring financial stability] On September 22, Chang Yongsung, a member of the Bank of Korea’s Monetary Policy Committee, said in a statement on Tuesday that the central bank will decide the timing and pace of further interest rate increases and pay close attention to inflation, economic conditions and financial stability. The Bank of Korea will strengthen its monitoring of the financial and foreign exchange markets as well as domestic and foreign factors, and work closely with the government to take timely market stabilization measures when market instability occurs. Despite domestic and foreign uncertainties, South Korea's financial system has generally remained stable, thanks to sound financial institutions and strong external payment capabilities. Nonetheless, there is still a need to remain vigilant about potential risks in the financial system.
