[The first-instance verdict in the corruption and bribery case of Zhao Lei, the former general manager of Beijing Cultural Investment and Development Group Co., Ltd.] On September 22, the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court publicly pronounced the verdict of Zhao Lei, the former general manager of Beijing Cultural Investment and Development Group Co., Ltd., in the corruption and bribery case in accordance with the law. Lei was sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption, deprived of political rights for life, and all personal property confiscated; for bribery, he was sentenced to ten years in prison and fined RMB 500,000; it was decided to execute life imprisonment, deprived of political rights for life, and confiscated all personal property. Zhao Lei was ordered to compensate the injured unit for its economic losses. Zhao Lei’s illegal gains from accepting bribes will be recovered, confiscated, and turned over to the state treasury. Property seized, detained, or frozen on record will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
