[The fifth ministerial meeting after the entry into force and implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) was held in Manila, Philippines] On September 22, the fifth ministerial meeting after the entry into force and implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) was held in Manila, Philippines, on September 21. Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong attended the meeting and delivered a speech. At the meeting, all parties had an in-depth exchange of views on the regional and global economic situation and the future development direction of RCEP, and reiterated their commitment to an open, free, fair and rules-based trade framework. All parties agreed that under the current background, they should work together to strengthen the implementation of the RCEP Agreement, deepen trade and investment ties among members, and continue to enhance regional economic resilience. All parties welcome the establishment of new members to join the working group for Bangladesh, Chile, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka, promote the RCEP expansion process, and will begin to formulate a "Joint Scope Document" for RCEP upgrade. They look forward to announcing the launch of the RCEP upgrade process at the 2027 RCEP Ministerial Conference. Yan Dong said in his speech that currently unilateralism and protectionism are countercurrent, the world economic growth momentum is insufficient, and the uncertainty faced by the development of various economies continues to rise. All parties should adhere to multilateralism, uphold the concept of openness and inclusiveness, accelerate the RCEP membership expansion process, make the regional cooperation platform bigger and stronger, and at the same time actively promote the review and upgrade of the agreement, further release the potential of regional cooperation, and inject stronger impetus into regional and global economic growth.
