[Final statistics show that the Alternative for Germany won the Saxony-Anhalt state parliamentary election] September 23rd, the electoral committee of the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt) announced the final results of the state parliamentary election on September 6th, local time. The results showed that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) became the largest party in the state with 43.8% of the vote, and German Chancellor Mertz's Christian Democratic Union ranked second with 17.2% of the vote. The Social Democratic Party, the Green Party and the Left Party received 9.3%, 8.9% and 8.6% of the vote respectively. The Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance entered the state parliament for the first time with 5.3% of the vote. The Liberal Democratic Party received 2.6% of the vote and failed to return to the state parliament. The turnout for this election was 77.8%.
