The U.S. government is considering setting up a joint venture platform with private companies to support stablecoin projects to maintain the U.S. dollar’s currency dominance and boost demand for U.S. Treasuries, people familiar with the matter said. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions are private. Stablecoin issuers typically back their tokens with assets such as cash and short-term U.S. Treasuries. Some people familiar with the matter said the work may involve multiple federal agencies including the Treasury Department and the State Department. Sources also said the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation may also be involved.
