[The U.S. Department of Energy will invest nearly $2 billion to upgrade the power grid] September 24th, the U.S. Department of Energy will announce an investment plan of nearly $2 billion on Thursday to tap the power supply potential of the U.S.’s old and increasingly stressed power grid. The funds will be used for 31 projects covering 26 states and are expected to add more than 23 gigawatts of power transmission capacity, equivalent to meeting the electricity needs of 16 million households.
