[The yen is on track for its biggest one-day gain in more than two weeks after Japan’s Finance Minister made exchange rate remarks] On September 25, after Japanese Finance Minister Katayama Satsuki’s latest comments on the yen made traders wary of the risk of intervention, the yen was on track for its biggest one-day gain in more than two weeks. On Friday, the yen rose as much as 0.6% to 157.95 yen per dollar, the best performer among G10 currencies. Katayama Satsuki said that U.S. President Trump expressed concern about the weakening of the yen during his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae in New York earlier this week, thus bringing some relief to market sentiment when the U.S. dollar has strengthened again recently and pushed the yen to the key psychological level of 160.
