EU natural gas inventories are at unusually low levels and the situation is grim, but there is no immediate supply risk. Thanks to new LNG production capacity, renewable energy and lower natural gas demand, the EU's preparedness is better than winter 2021. It is proposed that all parties consider additional measures to maintain gas inventory filling or reduce gas and electricity demand. Demand-cutting measures include bans on outdoor heating and temperature limits in public buildings. Any energy price controls should be targeted to avoid driving up demand for natural gas.
