Sun Lei, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, said that China has always believed that the United Nations is not the appropriate place to discuss the South China Sea issue. However, it is necessary for China to make a stern response to the Philippines' relevant erroneous remarks. China's position on the "South China Sea Arbitration Case" is consistent and clear. The Philippines' unilateral initiation of the so-called arbitration violates the basic principles of international law such as "state consent" and "agreement must be observed", and violates international law including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The "arbitral tribunal" overstepped its jurisdiction and made illegal decisions, and the "award" it made was illegal and invalid, which seriously affected the principles and spirit of the Convention and seriously affected the authority and integrity of the international law of the sea. China does not accept or recognize the "award", and opposes and does not accept any claims and actions based on the "award". This is not only to defend its own territory and maritime rights and interests, but also to safeguard the international maritime rule of law and maintain a fair and reasonable international maritime order. Sun Lei said that it is meaningless for the Philippines to exaggerate that the so-called "ruling" has been in place for ten years. The fact is that the "ruling" not only fails to resolve China-Philippines maritime issues, but intensifies regional conflicts and becomes a stumbling block to China-Philippines relations and peace and stability in the South China Sea. Regarding territorial issues and maritime delimitation disputes, China does not accept any dispute resolution imposed on China and has always advocated resolving disputes through negotiation and consultation with the countries directly concerned. China will continue to work with ASEAN countries to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea. Sun Lei said that the "South China Sea Arbitration Case" is a negative case of international maritime law. No matter how much the Philippines tries to whitewash it, it cannot change its illegal, invalid, ultra vires and reactionary nature.
