[New World Development lost US$3.6 billion for the full year] September 30th, New World Development stated that the company received financial support from the billionaire Cheng family after a large impairment of a comprehensive project at the Hong Kong Airport resulted in a loss of US$3.6 billion for the fiscal year. Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, New World Development's largest shareholder, said it was ready to provide support to the company, according to an announcement filed on Wednesday. Although this commitment is relatively general, it confirms investors' previous expectations that the Zheng family behind New World will support the company. New World Development booked an impairment of HK$18.3 billion (US$2.33 billion) after terminating an agreement with Hong Kong Airport to manage a mixed-use retail and office project. According to a separate statement from the Hong Kong Airport Authority, as part of the early termination agreement, New World Development will pay HK$3 billion to the AA and hand over three office towers and an entertainment venue at 11 SKIES in April.
