[8 dead and 17 missing as passenger ship capsizes in Cyprus] August 31: A passenger ship carrying 267 people capsized in the waters north of Cyprus on August 30. So far, at least 8 people have died and 17 are missing. It is said that water began to enter the hull of the privately owned passenger ship shortly after it departed from the port of Kyrenia in northern Cyprus at noon that day. It had just left the port about 4 nautical miles (7.41 kilometers) and was heading to the Turkish port of Tasuju. According to local media reports, the port authorities did not allow the passenger ship to leave the port due to bad weather the day before. After the ship left the port, the captain found water on the bow and tried to return, but failed. Survivors said that the boat shook violently while driving, was repeatedly thrown out of the water by wind and waves, and then fell heavily back into the water. Local media reported that the aging of the ship's hull may have been the main cause of the flooding. (CCTV International News)
