[China makes a joint speech at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, urging the curbing of unilateral coercive measures] On October 2, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, on behalf of 28 countries with similar views, made a joint speech at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on unilateral coercive measures, urging the international community to resolutely curb this illegal act. Fu Cong said that currently unilateralism is spreading wantonly and unilateral coercive measures are prevalent. History has proven that unilateral coercive measures are one of the main culprits in causing international chaos and undermining world order. The international community must stay awake, strengthen unity and cooperation, and resolutely curb this illegal act. Developing countries and their people continue to suffer the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures. These unilateral coercive measures violate the principles of sovereign equality and cooperation, interfere in other countries' internal affairs, violate the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, and run counter to multilateralism and international law. Fu Cong said that despite repeated calls from the international community for the immediate lifting of unilateral coercive measures, these illegal measures continue to cause serious consequences to the target countries and their people, even endangering lives. Unilateral coercive measures, as well as secondary sanctions and excessive compliance, have exacerbated current humanitarian and economic challenges and seriously threatened food, energy and financial security. The practice of using tariffs as a tool of unilateral coercion is increasing day by day, including making unilateral determinations based on domestic laws and imposing additional tariffs on the pretext of national security or human rights, further politicizing economic and trade issues, undermining the multilateral trading system, disrupting global industrial and supply chains, and hindering the efforts of relevant countries to achieve sustainable development goals. Unilateral coercive measures seriously violate basic human rights, including the right to life, health, development, and education, and hinder the target country's ability to realize the above-mentioned human rights. Fu Cong said that the 28 countries reiterated their opposition to unilateral coercive measures and called on a few Western countries to heed the just call of the international community and immediately and unconditionally cancel unilateral coercive measures. The 28 countries also called on United Nations member states, the United Nations system and other international organizations to jointly oppose these illegal measures and provide support to sanctioned countries to help them alleviate their difficulties. The 28 countries requested the UN Secretary-General to continue to monitor the use of unilateral economic measures as a means of political and economic coercion. Fu Cong made a joint speech on behalf of 28 countries including Antigua and Barbuda, Belarus, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Cuba, North Korea, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Laos, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, Pakistan, Russia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Sudan, Uganda, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and China.
