[The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce responded to reporters’ questions on the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into imported para-nitrotoluene originating in the EU] On October 3, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce responded to reporters’ questions regarding the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into imported para-nitrotoluene originating in the EU. A reporter asked: We are aware that the Ministry of Commerce launched an anti-dumping investigation on imported para-nitrotoluene originating in the EU today. Can you introduce the relevant situation? Answer: This investigation was initiated in response to an application from the domestic industry. Preliminary evidence provided by the applicant shows that from 2022 to 2025, the quantity of para-nitrotoluene products imported from Europe was at a high level, and the cumulative price dropped by nearly 60%. The dumping of imported products from Europe has caused damage to China's domestic industrial production and operations. According to Chinese laws and WTO rules, the relevant application meets the conditions for filing an anti-dumping investigation. China will conduct investigations in accordance with laws and regulations, fully protect the rights of all stakeholders, and make an objective and fair ruling. It needs to be emphasized that China has always adhered to a cautious and restrained stance in the field of trade remedies. At the same time, the EU has launched 28 trade remedy investigations against China since 2025, about 50% of which are chemical products. In particular, it has recently launched three consecutive investigations into China's polyvinyl chloride and other chemical products. China has repeatedly reiterated that the EU needs to face up to the economic and trade issues it faces and resolve each other's concerns through dialogue and consultation.
