[The China Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives accused Starbucks of opening stores in Xinjiang, China refuted it] On October 3, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun answered a reporter’s question.
Reporters from Reuters and AFP asked about Starbucks' plans to open stores in Xinjiang, China. The U.S. House of Representatives' Select Committee on China accused Starbucks of this decision as "morally bankrupt" and said the Chinese government was committing "genocide" against the Uyghurs. What is the comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
Guo Jiakun pointed out that the so-called "genocide" in Xinjiang is a naked lie. Relevant US agencies are accustomed to making things out of thin air to attack and smear China for political purposes, which has no credibility at all.
He said that Xinjiang currently enjoys social stability, economic development, ethnic unity and religious harmony. China will continue to expand high-level opening up to the outside world and provide more opportunities for foreign companies to invest and operate in China. (Governor of Chang'an Street)
