[Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council said it will counterattack the Houthi armed forces] October 4th, Rashad Alimi, chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, which exercises presidential powers, gave a televised speech today (October 4), announcing the launch of a “major military operation” against the Houthi armed forces in Yemen to seize territory under their control. Alimi said the decision to launch the counteroffensive was taken after "all opportunities for de-escalation had been exhausted" and accused the Houthis of responding to efforts to de-escalate with further escalation. He said in a televised speech: "Today, I announced the start of military operations to regain territory and extend the power of the country and its institutions to the entire territory." According to people familiar with the matter, this military operation will be led by Saudi Arabia in the air campaign, and the Yemeni government forces will be responsible for ground operations. The United States provides intelligence support for Saudi Arabia's operations in Yemen, and some regional and European countries mainly provide defensive military assistance to Saudi Arabia.
