[The Philippines claimed that Chinese troops and coast guard harassed Philippine aircraft and ships in two waters of the South China Sea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted] October 6, 2026. On October 6, 2026, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun answered reporters’ questions. AFP: On the 4th, the Philippines said that Chinese troops and coast guard harassed Philippine government aircraft and ships in two areas of the South China Sea. What is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ comment on this?
Guo Jiakun: China has sovereignty over Huangyan Island and the Nansha Islands, including Thitu Island and Tiexian Reef, as well as their adjacent waters, and has sovereign rights and jurisdiction over relevant waters. The territorial scope of the Philippines is determined by a series of international treaties. Scarborough Shoal and the Nansha Islands are not within the territorial scope of the Philippines. Recently, Philippine aircraft and ships have intruded into the sea and airspace under China's jurisdiction without China's permission, interfered with China's normal law enforcement, seriously violated China's sovereignty and jurisdiction, and deliberately undermined peace and stability in the South China Sea. The measures taken by the Chinese military and coast guard to respond in accordance with the law are legitimate and reasonable. China firmly opposes any actions by the Philippines that undermine China's sovereignty and rights and interests, and will continue to take necessary measures to resolutely defend its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea. China is telling the Philippines to immediately stop infringement and provocation.
