[The Lithuanian Parliament holds the first round of voting on lifting the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons] On October 6, the Lithuanian Parliament held the first round of voting on a constitutional amendment aimed at lifting the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons in the country, supporting the abolition of the relevant prohibitions in the constitution. This is the first step towards allowing weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, to enter or be deployed in Lithuania in the future. According to information released by the Lithuanian Parliament, this constitutional amendment abolishes Article 137 of the Constitution. Article 137 of the Constitution stipulates that weapons of mass destruction and foreign military bases may not exist in Lithuania. This provision effectively prohibits the entry or deployment of nuclear weapons in Lithuania.
