[Von der Leyen: The EU will take measures to deal with high energy costs] On October 6, European Commission President von der Leyen said on the 6th that the EU will take measures such as launching a strategic dialogue on European refineries and strengthening joint energy procurement to respond to rising energy prices and further reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels. Von der Leyen said at the European Parliament plenary session that day that since the end of February, European natural gas prices have increased by 140%, diesel prices have doubled, and the cost of imported fossil fuels has increased by approximately 100 billion euros. As winter approaches, pressure from high energy costs on businesses and residents is likely to intensify further. On the supply side, the EU will launch a strategic dialogue on European refineries to reduce costs and ensure energy supplies, including to meet supply needs in the defense sector. On the demand side, the EU will establish a new working group to pool member states' energy needs and further upgrade the joint procurement mechanism.
