[Fed Bowman said the central bank will soon consider raising the asset size threshold for bank supervision] October 6th, a senior Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday that the Federal Reserve will soon announce a plan to raise the asset size threshold that usually triggers stricter supervision of large U.S. banks. Michelle Bowman, the Fed's vice chair for supervisory affairs, said the Fed will seek to update asset threshold rules set in fixed dollar amounts later this year to reflect inflation and economic growth. In remarks prepared for a community banking research conference, Bowman said the plan would raise the threshold, which is currently fixed, and establish a mechanism for updating it every five years. “This will preserve the original policy intent when these thresholds were established,” Bowman said, adding that the Fed would also pursue “broader structural reforms to the bank portfolio by asset size and updates to the customized supervisory framework for large banks.”
