[French bonds underperformed other European bonds, and the spread between France and Germany widened to 138 basis points] On October 7, French bonds once again underperformed other European bonds. The difference between the 10-year government bond yields of France and Germany once widened 10 basis points to 138 basis points, as investors continue to digest the risk of increased fiscal pressure caused by budget negotiations in the coming months. French government bonds rose with the European government bond market on Tuesday, but then gave back some of the gains; French 30-year government bond yields rose 7 basis points to 5.37% on Wednesday.
