[Yuyuan Tantian: China can use anti-discrimination investigations and production and supply chain security investigations to respond to China-EU negotiations] On October 7th, Yuyuan Tantian issued an article stating that on October 5th, France and Germany submitted an informal document to the European Commission, requesting the EU to strengthen trade defense measures and add a number of new protectionist tools. This set of tools mainly points in several directions: restricting other countries’ goods and companies from entering the European market, reducing so-called supply chain dependence, and preparing in advance for possible countermeasures by other countries. At the same time, as currently envisioned, the EU could investigate other countries' overall policies. As long as the EU believes that it undermines the EU's so-called "fair market conditions", it can take measures if necessary. In this regard, China's attitude is very clear. If the EU insists on introducing relevant discriminatory measures, China will resolutely respond and defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese industries. In response to France and Germany's push for the EU to formulate new trade restriction tools, China can coordinate its position with third parties that may be affected and jointly study countermeasures within the framework of the WTO. Currently, the tools available to China include anti-discrimination investigations, industrial and supply chain safety investigations, and overseas subsidy impact investigations, etc.
