[ExxonMobil, Shell, and BP win and successfully dismiss New York City's environmental lawsuit] On October 9, a New York appeals court rejected New York City's application to reopen the lawsuit after New York City accused Exxon Mobil, BP, and Royal Dutch Shell of greenwashing at the product level and corporate level. The court found that the statements made by the three companies that their products could help reduce carbon emissions did not constitute misleading under New York State law because the relevant publicity clearly stated that the products being promoted were gasoline.
