[The U.S. estimates the total federal budget deficit in fiscal year 2026 to be $2 trillion] October 9th, according to estimates from the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, the U.S. federal government budget deficit in fiscal year 2026 will total $2 trillion, which is $218 billion higher than the deficit in fiscal year 2025. It is estimated that during fiscal year 2026, revenue will increase by $169 billion (an increase of 3%) and expenses will increase by approximately $386 billion (an increase of 6%). Expenditure growth mainly comes from areas such as net interest on debt, major welfare projects, defense and education; revenue growth is mainly driven by increases in personal income tax and payroll tax revenue.
