[The U.S. government suspends green card applications for foreign employees of many technology companies and investigates visa issues at 9 universities] October 9th, the U.S. federal government said on the 8th that it would suspend the participation of many technology companies such as Microsoft in the "Permanent Labor Certification" program. This program is the first step for foreign employees holding H-1B visas to apply for U.S. employment-based permanent residency (green cards) through their employers. At the same time, nine American universities including Harvard University and Stanford University are facing investigation for "suspected J-1 visa fraud."
