[The then chairman of Greentown China, Zhang Yadong, was indicted for allegedly accepting a bribe of HK$20 million] On October 9th, the Independent Commission Against Corruption of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced that it had charged Zhang Yadong, the then chairman of Greentown China Holdings Co., Ltd., for allegedly accepting a bribe of HK$20 million from a Dalian real estate developer shareholder, which resulted in Greentown China purchasing a local real estate project for 440 million yuan. The announcement pointed out that Zhang Yadong was charged with one count of conspiracy to cause an agent to accept benefits. He was suspected of conspiring with an intermediary, a shareholder of a Dalian real estate developer and the defendant's son from January 2020 to March 2023 to accept a bribe of HK$20 million from the shareholder, resulting in Greentown China acquiring the equity of the real estate developer. The investigation found that the shareholder involved had promoted a real estate project in Dalian to Greentown China since 2019. Later, the defendant allegedly solicited bribes from the shareholder through the intermediary involved, facilitating Greentown China's purchase of the relevant project for RMB 440 million. The bribes involved in the case were suspected to have been deposited into the bank account of the defendant's son in multiple installments through the intermediary.
