[EU finance ministers reach preliminary agreement on market regulation] On October 9, EU member states reached an agreement on market regulation reform, a decade-long effort aimed at eliminating national barriers and promoting private financing. Finance ministers agreed on the so-called Market Integration and Supervision Program (MISP), which will centralize supervision and enforcement under the Paris-based European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). The package still needs to be agreed with the European Parliament in the coming months before it can be formally approved and come into effect.
