[The continental United States experienced the hottest September on record] October 11th, according to ABC, the latest report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showed that the average temperature in the 48 contiguous states in the United States in September this year was about 20.8 degrees Celsius, breaking the record set in 1998. The report pointed out that this high temperature record was mainly driven by abnormally high minimum temperatures at night rather than extreme high temperatures during the day. About 80 million Americans experienced the hottest September night temperatures on record. According to the report, the average temperature in the lower 48 states of the United States has been higher than the historical average for the same period for 20 consecutive months. The average temperatures in March, July, August and September this year all hit record highs for their respective months. In terms of precipitation, September precipitation in the southwestern United States was more than twice the historical average for the same period. Meanwhile, drought continues in parts of the United States. According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released on October 8, about 55% of the continental United States is currently in a drought state. (CCTV International News)
