[Japanese newspaper subscription rate falls below 50% for the first time] October 11th, according to the fiscal year 2026 survey results released by the Japan Press and Telecommunications Research Council on the 10th, the proportion of respondents in Japan who subscribe to newspapers on a monthly basis dropped by 0.3 percentage points year-on-year to 49.8%. This is the first time since the survey began in 2008 that it has fallen below 50%.
